Welcome to Chattanooga Bird Control: Prevention and Removal of Unwanted Birds

Our company specializes in resolving problems caused by birds in Chattanooga, Tennessee, both residential and commerical. We handle bird species such as pigeons, starlings, grackles, sparros, and even Canada Geese and woodpeckers. We generally don't kill birds - we prevent them from causing problems. Most commonly, this means that we install barriers that prevent them access to your building or property, or anti-roosting devices that prevent them from landing, nesting, or roosting on your home, store, building, or anywhere. We use netting, needle strips, shock track, and more. We do offer trapping in some cases, and removal of birds from warehouses, grocery stores, or other commerical or industrial buildings by netting or sometimes pellet shooting. We have a wide variety of tools and methods for solving every manner of bird problem. Call us at 423-388-4268 to discuss your bird problem today.

Birds of Prey for Pigeons: What You Need to Know

Using birds of prey to keep down pigeon populations is a method called falconry, and it's usually adopted by owners of large land spaces or tall buildings, and also local governments or big businesses/organizations. It's not a suitable method of pigeon pest control for smaller plots of land or residential areas.

When birds of prey are used to disperse pigeons, they are used in a similar way to scarecrows down on the ground. They are a moving form of pest control. The pigeons are a snack to most birds of prey, and this makes a flock fly away very quickly when they think one of them is hanging around, looking for a feast.

Falconry (also known as hawking) doesn't involve the eating of pigeons by these birds of prey, however. This would cause the spread of disease, and potentially even mutations of diseases. What does happen, however, is that the pigeons are scared by the larger bird flying around above them and will be less likely to come back. It's like having a plastic dummy owl in your back garden, but better ... It actually works.

When you use plastic dummies and other similar items and gadgets to try and repel pigeons, the flock doesn't take long to realize it is just that — a plastic dummy. If the dummy doesn't move, has no real bird-like or predator-like traits about it, the pigeons will simply forget it is even there. What may have worked for the first few days to disperse the flock will no longer work.

Falconry puts some movement and real fear into the mix. The bird of prey isn't simply sitting there like a plastic dummy; it's flying around, actually hunting out prey (or so it appears), and making bird of prey-like sounds. Those things are usually enough to get rid of pigeons from the area over the bird of prey flies, for a while. Some buildings will require repeated trips from a falconry professional or company to get the job done, but the pigeons will eventually learn that your building is not a good place to hang out.

There is nothing better than getting rid of a pest with a genuine predator of its own, and with pigeons now feeling less fear around humans, it might just be time to get back to basics and let nature work its own little magic.
